Critically Bali

Enquire

Critically Bali presents a selection of works by Balinese artists and artists based in Bali, spanning from the pre-war period to the present. Curated by Arif Bagus Prasetyo, the exhibition examines the catalysts that have shaped the course of Balinese art across time.

It traces how artists have responded to, negotiated with, and at times resisted dominant narratives—from the colonial gaze and post-independence cultural frameworks to the pressures of tourism and contemporary global art discourses. Featuring Balinese artists, diasporic voices, and non-Balinese practitioners who have made Bali their home, the exhibition underscores the island’s enduring importance as a site of artistic innovation.
