This year’s presentation is particularly motivated by the Gallery’s longstanding commitment to showcasing powerful artistic narratives, the exhibition delves into themes that resonate with contemporary Indonesian audiences, from the intricacies of daily life to thought-provoking explorations of social and cultural issues. Each artist’s work invites viewers to find beauty, reflection, and solace, whether through personal or collective experiences.

What truly sets this year’s showcase apart is its multi-generational representation. Iconic pioneers like Singaporean artist Han Sai Por, born in 1943, and Philippine National Artist Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera, born in 1942, stand alongside younger voices like Balinese artist Jemana Murti and Malaysian artist Kayleigh Goh. This exhibition captures the ongoing evolution of Southeast Asia’s art scene and offers a rich spectrum of artistic expression.

Moreover, the exhibition presents a deliberate juxtaposition of tradition and modernity, reflected in the varied artistic approaches of the featured works. The raw intensity of the late I Gusti Ayu Kadek Murniasih’s paintings contrasts with the serene minimalism of Goh’s sculptural installations, inviting viewers to engage with multiple layers of materiality and meaning. This thoughtful curation not only highlights the individual strength of each artist but also demonstrates the collective synergy of their practices, offering a cohesive yet dynamic exploration of Southeast Asia’s contemporary art landscape.
