    Artist Bio

    (b. 1941, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia)

    Born in 1941, Latiff Mohidin is one of Malaysia’s most celebrated artists and poets. Beginning with his first solo exhibition in 1951, Latiff’s artistic practice spans more than seven decades, a remarkable testament to his longevity and significant role in not just Malaysian art but also Southeast Asian art.

    Though mostly recognised as an abstract painter, his abilities to transcend artistic mediums have endeared him to both public institutions and private collectors. His paintings are collected by the art museums of both Malaysia and Singapore, besides numerous corporate art collections. His public sculptures have also adorned iconic developments including the KLCC Twin Towers in Malaysia and the DUO Tower in Singapore.

    He has been accorded retrospective exhibitions by the National Art Gallery, Malaysia – in 1973 and 2013 – and the Singapore Art Museum in 1994. More recently, he became the first Southeast Asian artist to be featured in a solo exhibition in Centre Pompidou’s ‘In-Focus Gallery’ showcasing his famed Pago-Pago series of works (1960 – 1969) in the much-celebrated exhibition in Paris in 2018.
