에리잘 아스는 인도네시아 현대미술을 대표하는 작가로, 풍부한 질감과 임파스토(impasto)가 돋보이는 회화로 잘 알려져 있다. 미낭카바우 철학인 **‘알람 타캄방 자디 구루(Alam Takambang Jadi Guru, 자연은 영원한 스승이다)’**에 뿌리를 둔 그의 작업은 풍경의 색채와 분위기, 리듬을 추상적인 제스처로 응축해 작가가 말하는 자연의 ‘본질’을 탐구한다.

에리잘은 인도네시아 예술대학교(Institut Seni Indonesia, ISI) 족자카르타를 졸업했으며, 현재 족자카르타를 기반으로 활동하고 있다.

Erizal As is a leading figure in Indonesian contemporary art, recognised for his richly textured paintings characterised by impasto. Rooted in the Minangkabau philosophy of Alam Takambang Jadi Guru (“Nature is an eternal teacher”), his paintings retain traces of landscape—its colour, atmosphere, and rhythm—distilled into abstract gestures that express what he describes as the “essence” of nature.

Erizal graduated from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta and is currently based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
