These 36 photos come from Arron Teo’s early street photography days. After observing countless interesting moments unfolding around him and finding it regrettably wasteful not to document them, Arron Teo ventured into the genre of street photography, which he values for its “sense of provocative realness that most people would prefer to turn a blind eye to”. His works in this show reveal how he values the anonymity of his human subjects by capturing them with their backs turned to the camera, or digitally manipulating them to replace their real faces with imaginary ones.

This anonymity draws attention not to personalities or elaborate stories, but small and fleeting social scenarios. Though the selected photographs might seem mundane, it is exactly the intimacy of mundane scenes that has the power to contradict popular perceptions of social norms within the community – what should be or should not be, what is or what is not.
