    About the Role
Gajah Gallery is seeking a creative and detail-driven Design Intern to support the gallery’s visual communications across both digital and print platforms. This is a hands-on internship offering exposure to the workings of a professional contemporary art gallery, with the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to real exhibitions, campaigns, and publications.

The ideal candidate is a design student or recent graduate with a strong visual sensibility, a keen eye for typography and layout, and a genuine interest in the art world. You will work closely with the Gallery Manager and Owner, and are expected to take initiative, manage your time independently, and maintain a high standard of output throughout the internship.

    Key Responsibilities

    Digital Design

    • Create visual assets for social media platforms including exhibition announcements, artist features, event promotions, and stories.
    • Assist in maintaining visual consistency across all digital touchpoints in line with the gallery’s brand identity.
    • Support the preparation of email newsletters and digital invitations.
    • Assist with basic website updates and image formatting as required.

    Print & Publication Design

    • Design print collateral including exhibition catalogues, artist brochures, posters, invitations, and signage.
    • Assist in coordinating print production, including liaising with vendors on specifications, proofing, and timelines.
    • Ensure all print materials meet the gallery’s visual standards and are delivered accurately and on time.
    • Assisting with taking and editing of high-res images.

    General

    • Maintain organised design files, assets, and brand guidelines.
    • Support the gallery team in ad hoc design tasks and special projects as they arise.
    • Attend and assist with exhibition openings and gallery events where required.

    Requirements

    Essential

    • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Diploma or Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Fine Arts, or a related field.
    • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, in particular InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Candidates should be comfortable working beyond template-based tools.
    • Strong understanding of layout, typography, and visual hierarchy across both print and digital formats.
    • Meticulous attention to detail, particularly in file preparation, colour management, and proofing.
    • Ability to manage multiple design briefs simultaneously and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

    Preferred

    • Basic photography or image retouching skills.
    • Prior exposure to the arts, cultural institutions, or a creative industry environment.
    • Genuine interest in contemporary art and gallery practice.
