Born in February 16, 1939, the artist has come a long way from the days in the early 60s when he had his first brush with ink and pastel and cross-cross patterns surfaced to infuse a dramatic element in his works.

Jogen Chowdhury, one of India’s most renowned artists with works in the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, has built a reputation of a keen observer and an iconoclast.

Perhaps the most alluring and fascinating aspect of Chowdhury’s work is the line, which becomes an outstanding feature that forms the contour and dimension that the viewer sees. His earlier works already portrayed his exquisite line work, which he has developed further into something simpler and delight to the eye while engaging the viewer at a sublime level.
