Regarded as one of Indonesia’s pioneer modernists, Mochtar Apin (1923-1994) is renowned for his experimental art which pushed the boundaries and significantly furthered the development of art in a newly independent Indonesia.
This exhibition will showcase a rare collection of the artist’s early works on paper from the private collection of the artist’s early works on paper from the private collection of his wife, Ibu Sien Apin. This will be the first time that these works are shown in public. Pieces featured are rendered in watercolour, pastel, linocut, lithograph and ink.
