Gajah Gallery Jakarta presents Elevation: Kayleigh Goh’s Exploration of Abstract Architecture-scapes, a solo exhibition by Malaysian artist Kayleigh Goh. This marks Goh’s first solo exhibition in Jakarta and promises to be a captivating journey into the realm of abstract architectural exploration.
Goh’s artistic evolution takes centre stage in Elevation, showcasing a departure from her earlier works while retaining the essence of her distinctive style. Renowned for her mastery in creating illusory spaces, Goh’s inaugural solo show in 2018, And Yet, If Only, in Gajah Gallery Singapore, laid the foundation for her exploration of liminal spaces within the framework of traditional architectural constructs.
In her latest series, Goh pushes the boundaries of her artistry beyond the constraints of conventional architectural representations. Embracing abstraction, her pieces transcend the physical, introducing expansive landscapes, skies, and bodies of water alongside the precise interior lines that define her signature style. This departure signifies a profound evolution in her artistic journey, influenced by her studies abroad and a newfound fascination with abstraction.
Elevation exhibition unfolds a dual narrative within Goh’s oeuvre. On one end, her works exhibit total geometric arrangements and non-representational tessellation, while on the other, organic forms emerge, incorporating irregularities such as stones, concrete chippings, and tiles. This juxtaposition creates a dynamic interplay between structure and fluidity, challenging viewers to reconsider the boundaries of architectural representation.
