Artist Bio
(b. 1976, Bali)
I Gusti Ngurah Udiantara, affectionately known as Tantin, was born on May 31, 1976, in Banjar Kelodan, Tampaksiring, Gianyar, Bali. He was drawn to art at an early age, as he was born into a family of sculptors. His art education began with studying painting at the High School of Fine Arts (SMSR) in Bali, continuing with him pursuing fine arts studies at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) in Yogyakarta. It was here that he began honing his artistic abilities and developing his unique artistic identity.
Tantin’s works make use of fundamental elements like shapes, lines, and colour gradients to create visually pleasing and complex expressions that evoke a calm and satisfying experience. These deceptively simple compositions reveal a mastery of foundational techniques along with an understanding of the emotional weight that they can carry.
Tantin has exhibited in various exhibitions including Unfolding Infinity at Primo Marella Gallery, Italy (2025), Distrik Seni x Sarinah: Berkelanjutan at Distrik Seni, Jakarta (2022), Upwind Downtempo at Gajah Gallery, Yogyakarta (2021), Abstract vs Optical at Primo Marella Gallery, Milan, Italy (2020), Artjog: Resilience at Jogja National Museum, Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2020), Yogya Annual Art: Incumbent at Sangkring Art Space, Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2019), and Artjog: Enlightenment at Jogja National Museum, Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2018).
