    Reza Afisina, also known as Asung, is a prominent new media artist from Bandung, Indonesia, born in 1977. He studied cinematography at the Jakarta Institute of the Arts (Institut Kesenian Jakarta), with a particular focus on sound recording for film and documentary. Early in his career, he shifted from film to contemporary art, driven by a growing interest in performance and video art, which he began exploring in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

    Asung was actively involved with ruangrupa, a leading Jakarta-based art collective, which significantly shaped his artistic trajectory and encouraged him to expand beyond the boundaries of his cinematography background. His practice frequently investigates themes of identity, the body, culture, and the convergence of performance art with technology and social media.

    He has taken part in numerous international residencies and festivals, including programmes in Brazil (2003), India (2004), Australia (2006), Germany and Switzerland (2009), and Poland and Ireland (2012). Renowned for his commitment to artistic experimentation, Asung continues to push the boundaries of contemporary Indonesian art, embracing interdisciplinary approaches that blend performance, video, and sound.

    Alongside his individual practice, Reza Afisina remains an influential figure in the Indonesian art scene, actively mentoring emerging artists and contributing to the development of new artistic platforms and dialogues.
