    Artist Bio

Eldwin Pradipta graduated from the Faculty of Art & Design, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Fine Art Department, majoring in Intermedia Art Studio. He currently lives and works in Bandung, Indonesia. His works explore various topics throughout the years: from post-colonialism, cultural commodification, the contemporary art world itself, to anthropomorphism in technological devices. He mainly uses video, installation, digital projection, programming languages, sensory devices, and AI as media.

His early works often focus on the subject of populist or low art in Indonesia, juxtaposed and dichotomised with the objects and praxis of high art. The life of the people is also one of the backgrounds and a recurring theme in some of his works. Through such perspectives, Eldwin puts forward the disjunctures and ruptures in the order of things in daily life in Indonesia as a third-world country.

Through the years, his work has examined various subject matter–including natural landscapes painting, the divide between high art–low art, craft  and traditional practices, cultural commodification, and urban histories shaped by colonialism, and the commercial dynamics of the art world itself.

In the most recent development of his work, Eldwin focuses on interactive art to re-examine the relationship between artwork and audience–questioning the extent to which external influences, beyond the artist, can shape the final outcome.. In conjunction with this series, prompted by the need to integrate various sensors into his works, he is also investigating the capacity of machines, computers, and artificial intelligence to possess sensory perception comparable to that of humans.
