(b. 1997, Deiyai, Central Papua)
Betty Adii is a self-taught Papuan artist currently based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Working across painting, drawing and installation, she examines the experiences of Papuan women within broader social and political structures. Her work addresses questions of identity, cultural belonging and resistance, drawing attention to the ways historical and contemporary forms of oppression continue to shape women’s lives in Papua.
Through her practice, Adii considers the relationship between individual experience and collective struggle, foregrounding the importance of solidarity and shared histories. Her work engages with the social consequences of colonialism and militarism while affirming the resilience of Papuan women and their communities. She is a member of the Udeido Collective and has participated in major exhibitions including Biennale Jogja XVI (2021), Biennale Jogja 17 (2013) and Sharjah Biennal 16 (2025), and was a finalist for the 10th Max Mara Art Prize for Women.
