Gajah Gallery participates in ART SG 2025 with a carefully curated line-up of artists representing Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines. This presentation brings together an inspiring mix of established luminaries and emerging talents, offering audiences fresh perspectives on themes of abstraction, materiality, and urban life, while embodying the vibrancy and dynamism of Southeast Asia’s contemporary art scene.
The presentation will feature a selection of new and previously unseen works, including works by Jemana Murti, Marina Cruz, Mark Justiniani, and Yunizar, alongside pieces by Philippine National Artist Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera. These works exemplify the Gallery’s commitment to championing Southeast Asian artists and fostering their growth within the global art market. A key highlight of the showcase is the collaboration with Yogya Art Lab (YAL), Gajah Gallery’s creative hub and foundry in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. YAL has been instrumental in enabling artists such as BenCab, Mark Justiniani, Suzann Victor, and Yunizar, to explore experimental techniques and materials, pushing the boundaries of their artistic practices.
It also celebrates a dialogue between generations, bridging the contributions of pioneering figures and the perspectives of emerging voices. Notable artists such as Singaporean sculptor Han Sai Por, whose influence has been pivotal in shaping Southeast Asia’s sculptural discourse, and BenCab will be showcased alongside rising talents like Indonesian artist Ridho Rizki and Malaysian-born, Melbourne-based artist Kayleigh Goh. This interplay underscores the continuity of artistic concerns across generations, with younger artists presenting innovative interpretations of themes explored by their predecessors. Rizki’s practice, for example, involves the use of solid colour particles to emulate the way human eyes perceive form, while Goh’s minimalist sculptures delve into materiality with refined sensitivity.
Additionally, the presentation will feature seminal works by I Gusti Ayu Kadek Murniasih, whose paintings explore themes of female sexuality and desire, enriching the exhibition’s narrative with their bold and introspective storytelling.
This thoughtfully curated selection invites audiences to engage with the diverse approaches Southeast Asian artists adopt to explore materiality and meaning, fostering a deeper appreciation for both individual creative expressions and the collective strength of the region’s artistic practices.
Gajah Gallery’s participation at ART SG this year underscores its ongoing mission to elevate Southeast Asian art within the global context. By presenting works that reflect the region’s artistic diversity and depth, the Gallery aims to position these artists within significant international collections and reinforce their presence in the global art market. This showcase reaffirms Gajah Gallery’s belief that Southeast Asian artists are not only relevant but fully capable of standing alongside their global contemporaries. Catch us at Booth BC08.
