In this painting, we are brought once again into Murni’s dream worlds and subconscious which are full of strange creatures. At times these imageries reveal her complex self-reflections. The cat-like creature in this painting has also occurred in another of Murni’s works, entitled Kucingku Di Belanda (My Cat in the Netherlands). This cat-creature in both paintings has been noted to bear features the resemble the artist herself. We are compelled to consider what traits of this creature Murni sees herself embodying and how she imagines her self-transformations through this surreal body. Using anthropomorphism to give her creatures human-like qualities, Murni’s practice closely resembles the many symbiotic relationships between humans and animals depicted in Javanese and Balinese art.
